Description

After playing with the HTC Vive a while you'll find when you take off the HMD you'll have a very sweaty face. Others have found that having a fan blow on your forehead helps keep you cool, but I wanted a way that didn't cost $30+ to achieve the same thing.

There are generic laptop coolors available on Amazon.com, Walmart, eBay, etc for <$5 so I created these mounts to allow you to mount an inexpensive USB fan to your headset. (I found mine searching for USB Mini Octopus Laptop Fan)

Pop the four laptop supports out of the fan, then plug the USB plug into the top of the HMD. Put the replacement mounts into the fan (the pegs should snap into place). They spin, so they're adjustable to the HMD angles. Use the printed pegs or two small metal screws to act as hinge pins. Use two pieces of double stick tape to attach the mounts to the top of the HMD and you're done. If you want the ability to easily turn the fan on and off you can add a USB switch to the mix.

Pics of the basic fan, USB switch, and assembled fan. I'll post one of the fan on the HMD later.

11/28/2017 - revised the design to remove the pins/screws. This should be easier to assemble and use. I also widened the base piece to accommodate the new mounting style.

12/11/2017 - added photos and a video of the fan installed. Mine currently doesn't have an on/off switch so it is always running when the headset usb is plugged in. You'll want to use some strong double-sided tape if you're using the small brackets as they are not contoured to fit perfectly flush against the headset. I'm working on a longer, single bar type mount to try to fix some stability issues, but it does work as currently uploaded.
