Description

I was not super happy with original RyanPuzzle's design because it was:

  • too loose (huge tolerance)
  • too catchy (sharp corners)
  • consist of pieces of 2 differen things with different scale (unclear how to print)
  • Screw mechanism is not well designed

All credits still go to RyanPuzzle, consider this thing as just a polished version of his puzzle.

In this design I used 20mm blocks (vs 19mm in the original Rubik's Cube) - this is just for easier measurement. I added fillets to all edges, so all pieces do not catch each other on movements. 0.2mm tolerance works fine in my case.

One more note on the design. All pieces are bulging and can can't be printed as is without supports. First of all I do not like printing with supports, so I just split each piece into body and cap and then glued together. I printed my puzzle in ABS and used acethone as a glue. Moreover my printer swallows first few layers (smear it on the table), so I added 0.2mm height to each part. After gluing and sanding all pieces became exactly 20x20x20mm.

If you feel this approach is overcomplicated - you may use non-split version of puzzle pieces. See parts with 'As Is' in file name. Note, they are not properly rotated and not prepared for printing. Use you favorite slicer and printing approach.
