Description

The openSCAD script provides a configurable mounting bracket for use with the rectangular brick or block style power adapters or power supplies often used with laptops and other small electronics.

The bracket can be prepared so that the power adapter is mounted in a lay-flat configuration, or in an upright, on-edge configuration. A top-level geometry section of the script allows the user to specify the desired openSCAD result. Two components are provided. One serves as a wrap-around for the power adapter, and the second component serves as a base.

The wrap component can be configured with a closed bottom and used alone for a low-profile mount. Configuring the wrap component with an "open" bottom allows it to be "sprung" over a cabled power adapter. Here, use of the base component can be used to help stabilize the open-bottom wrap component when mounting the adapter. The base component also increases the gap available for convection airflow cooling between the power adapter and the mounting surface.

A sample STL file has provided for mounting a 55mm x 34mm power adapter in a lay-flat orientation. The intent is for the openSCAD source to be tailored for your application rather than using this specific STL file. Two brackets would typically be used to mount an adapter.

This is a remix of my Inateck FE3001 Hard Disk Drive Enclosure Mounting Bracket available at https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2662310. Adaptation consists of changing the size parameters and applying a different method to form the wrap component.

REV A of the openSCAD file corrects an error in make_base so that the mounting holes are properly spaced when parameters WRAP_WALL_THICK and WRAP_MTAB_THICK differ.

REV B corrects other problems with the wrap component when WRAP_MTAB_THICK is greater than WRAP_WALL_THICK
