Olde Bookbinding Fittings for Notebook

My son wanted a lock from his notebook. So being the awesome dad that I am, I designed this.

Should be no issue printing these parts in your favourite filament at your favourite settings. I printed in PLA @ 0.2mm layer height. You'll need 4x Outside Corner and 2x each of the Spine Corner and Spine Corner mirrored. I have also included models for the Side Flap to cover book thicknesses from 5mm to 20mm outside cover to outside cover.

Assembly of the BackPlate, Side and Top Flaps is acheived by cutting a piece of paperclip (0.8 wire diameter) to length and pushing it through the hinges. You may need some pliers to help push it through (and to cut it obviously).

A couple of things to point out: You will likely need to clean up the underside of the bridged section on the Front Plate to allow the Lock to pass through. I did this just by triming the sagging layer with a blade. Some support may prevent sagging. Also worth taking care of the orientation when printnig the corners so that the fill angle of the layer matches nicely in each corner - I have one corner that is at 90° to the rest.

CA glue to attach them to your book of choice.

Lock can also be stored back in the Front Plate when the book is open.
