Description
Print-in-place caster wheel that I designed as an experiment. Works better than you'd expect although it needs some breaking-in time to smooth out the internal plastic ball bearings.
The swivel shaft is printed separately and clicked into place. Shaft diameter is designed to be a snug press-fit into a 9mm receptacle.
Wheel diameter is approximately 43mm. Wheel rolls freely on 12 internal ball bearings that print in place.
It is shockingly strong and can easily tolerate a working load of 50 lbs or more (after being broken in). In any real world situation, the first thing to fail will be the swivel shaft, which is likely to crack when the wheel hits some kind of divot or obstacle and incurs a large shear (sideways) loading. If you actually intend to use this wheel on an office chair or something, be sure to read the print notes below.
