Description

This is a breadboard adapter for Wroom32 ESP32 modules.

I have used Pogo pins for my ESP8266 adapters but this is tricky for the Wroom32 as there is no holes for the pins to locate in and the spacing is much tighter.

Instead I used 1.27mm pin strips which are the same spacing as on the module.

The printed plate takes 2 strips of normal 2.54 pins (16 pins) and three strips of 1.27mm pins (2 x 14 pins and 1 x 10). The spacing of the 1.27mm pins is deliberately made a little tighter than on the module to ensure a good contact. I only use the outer 4 contacts on the bottom row as the inner ones are flash memory access.

I glue the pin strips in place with epoxy resin. After making and testing the connections I use more resin to secure the pins and prevent them pushing through. I use solderable enamelled wire for most of the connections and heavier gauge for the GND and 3.3V connections. Care must be taken soldering onto the 1.27mm strips to avoid bridging pins.

The adapter is fitted to a solderless breadboard sawn in half so it can be spaced out wider. The printed joiner plate makes fr a secure overall assembly.

When using for the first time it may be necessary to slightly bend out the 1.27mm pins to fit the Wroom32 module but this does allow a good pressure contact on the module.
