Description

My 3d printer turned out to be louder than I expected, and even though I put it into a build chamber, the movements caused my enclosure and cabinet to vibrate.
In order to dampen the vibrations, I looked for and tried several solutions.
One of the solutions was to put the printer on feet that used squash / racketballs for decoupling.
As I did not find the available solutions stable enough as they were high and the balls were not fixed, and fell off the printer when lifted.
I decided to design my own solution using an piece of 18 mm laminate chip / fiber board as a basis.
To reduce overall height I drilled holes with thru the board and designed the holders to put the ball as far into the board as possible, and used holder to cover up the hole edges.
The holders are screwed in place and afixed into the board.
The balls are fixed into the holder by a screw ring, which allows to control the pressure of the ball, making it more or less firm.
I used double yellow dot squash/racket balls.
For me this setup reduced the vibrations substantially but did not fully remove them.

I added a dimensional drawing of my board, including hole sizes and diameters.
The board dimensions are designed for a PRUSA I3 MK2S.
