Description

This is a desk microphone I designed to match the uBITX enclosure I made. The mic element is an electret type that comes with the uBITX QRP kit. You can also use it on any device that will work with an electret mic. Electrets need a bias voltage to work.

Additional materials needed are:

  • 2x 3mm hex keys to hold the gooseneck at each end. Or you can just glue the ends.

  • 2x 3mm nuts and bolts for the cable clamp.

  • 4x 3mm machine screws to join both halves of the base.

  • 8x8mm pushbutton switch, momentary contacts (for the PTT)

  • 8x8mm pushbutton switch, latching contacts (for the PTT Lock)

  • USB laptop lamp with a 5mm gooseneck. I got mine from a dollar shop and loads are listed on eBay at around the same price.

  • Mesh strainer for the mic grille. I got mine, again, from a dollar shop.

Only 2 pins are needed on each switch. You can cut the unneeded pins to make it easier to mount the switches. Solder the wires to the pins, and while inserting the wires/switch on its mount pull on the wires to spread the legs wide. The switches are to be seated all the way down.

I have included a mesh plug to form the grille easier. Use the flat side of the disc to measure and cut the mesh, then use the opposite side with the bump to form the grille. You can then slide the formed grille into the open end of the mic enclosure.
