Description

The Printrbot Simple XL comes with provisions for a roll of filament. Out of the three rolls I currently have not a single one sits on the rollers properly. I wanted something to allow me to quickly change rolls out. That got me thinking - where else in life do people want to quickly and easily change rolls out? Then it hit me - Toilet paper!

I designed this stand to sit on top of the XL and be somewhat held in place by the bearings on top. There is a cutout for the Z screw so it sits flat on top. The fixture uses a standard toilet paper roller that can be picked up at a hardware store for a few bucks (or "borrowed" from the hall bathroom).

Based on the fact that before I printed this out I literally had filament spools hanging from the chandelier over my dining room table I don't think my wife will complain too much about the missing roller in the hall restroom!

This fixture is a bit on the tall side so you will need an XL to print it out. I have ran a few prints with it and have not seen any feed issues!

EDIT: 4/26/2014
Revision 2 uploaded
Revision 2 is shorter so you can print it on an XL without removing the top plate. It has a clearance hole in the bottom, and better support for the uprights.

UPDATE 4/29/2014
Revision 3 uploaded
Revision 3 is a bit taller then Revision 2. Revision 2 worked with all spools I had at the time but I recently got spools that are the same height but the hole in the middle is larger, causing them to hang lower and rub. I also increased the size of the clearance hole on the bottom hoping to make it easier to line it up. As these things take forever to print out I haven't printed Rev 3 yet so if someone prints it let me know how the hole in the bottom lines up!
