Summary

The cup holders in the arm rest of my 2010 Nissan Titan are far too loose to trust a drink in, especially on rough roads. People have used DIY foam inserts to fix the problem in the past, but I wanted to design something better.

This insert has beveled sides like the cup holder, and doesn't quite touch the bottom. This way, it is guaranteed to fit tight and not rattle around.

How I Designed This

How I used Tinkercad to make this (and how to edit it for your needs):

            <div><p>I used Tinkercad to create a cone with base and top widths the same as my measurements from the cupholder.  I printed this solid object as a single-wall vase, to test the fit.</p><p>Once satisfied, I inserted another cone wide enough to fit a coke can, and getting very slightly larger at the top.  I then used another cone, with a more pronounced angle, to create the bevel at the very top.</p><p>I made the triangle cutouts by using a "roof" shape that went all the way through the object.  I then used "duplicate" and turned it a few degrees.  Pressing "duplicate" again made another copy, already positioned with the same spacing as between the first two.  I pressed duplicate until they went all the way around the object.  </p><p>The "holes" do not show up in the preview until you select all the models and "group" them.
