I recently ran across the Crosshairs board game through this Thingiverse page by Anubis. As an avid aviation enthusiast, I was already working on a hex based combat game of my own, but I liked the game mechanics of Crosshairs so much I gave up. With the designer’s permission, I have designed and printed my own pieces and board based on modern aircraft.
If you would like me to make any different aircraft types than what are included, please PM me, and I'll see what I can do.

NEEDED FOR PLAY:
50x altitude pieces (round) - print in clear
16x cloud pieces - print in white
5x aircraft pieces per side - print in desired color and set a color change (M600 code) to change to clear after the airplane layers are complete.
Playing board - Four different maps (PDFs) are included; blue, NTTR, Persian Gulf, and Russia. These can be printed out at 100% on four sheets of letter sized paper and glued to a piece of hardboard or foam to create the game board.
ORIGINAL GAME DESCRIPTION:
Crosshairs is a combinatorial game with a strong WW1 aerial combat theme. Players each have a squadron of planes and move all of their planes each turn. Movement consists of either
a) a straight pass flight (no altitude change)
b) a climb (increasing the height of the piece by adding an additional ring) or
c) a dive (losing height to make a sequence of moves by removing one ring per descent height).
Pieces are captured when they are in the line of fire of two or more enemy planes. Clouds block line of fire and provide strategic cover during play.
If a player is reduced to having only one plane, he's shot from the sky (i.e., is eliminated from the game). A player wins when he reduces the only remaining opponent to only one plane. Games are brutal, fast, and fun.
MODERN RULES (with missiles/guns)
Play with a modern twist by adding die/dice to the game and using these alternate rules:
Opponent’s planes can be eliminated by a single aircraft launching missiles or using guns. When a plane is within 60 degrees boresight of the nose of your plane, a missile can be launched by rolling the dice. The number rolled indicates the missile’s flight range, turning 60 degrees with each forward movement. If the “missile” can reach the target, it is eliminated from play.
If the opponent’s plane is within two spaces, guns must be used (You must role a 1, 2, or 3 on the die).
