Description

These components allow you to substitute a section of 22mm CPAP tube in place of the stock silicone tubing supplied with the Zimpure air filter, when used with the SE300 hot-end.

Here is my original suction head for the SE300.
https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3262823

The tubing is made by Sunset Healthcare solutions. You can get one on Ebay for about $8. See the photo of the label. It only weighs .3 grams per centimeter, compared to 1.1 grams per centimeter for the stock silicone tubing supplied with the Zimpure.

I am trying this approach because the light weight means less mass for the printer to move around. Also, it seems to behave better - not kinking so much at the highest position (500mm above bed) of the print head on the Artemis. And over 12 hours or so of printing, the stock tubing would work its way out of the suction head even though it is a very tight fit. The threading on this tubing keeps it secure.

All files print without support. The Mouth and Tube components are to be glued together. They are keyed to insure alignment. See the original suction head design for details on how it attaches to the SE300. The Adapter threads onto one end of the tubing and inserts into the Zimpure unit. I sized it to be a tight fit so you might need to sand it slightly to get it to go in.

If your material doesn't bridge well, you might need to use some support at the end of the suction head that goes nearest the print nozzle, because it has some overhang that needs a good bridge to get it started.

For the Artemis, I used a 29" length of the tubing.

The parts are threaded to accept the tubing. I removed and discarded the rubber ends of the tubing. Since the tubing came folded in its packaging, it had developed bends that could not be completely removed. The bends don't seem to hurt anything, and actually seem to help the tubing support itself. (see 2nd photo)

The tubing appears to be made of polyethylene, so it may not take heat as well as the silicone will. When printing PETG on the Artemis at 235C, and using a silicone sock on the heater block, the tubing only showed 40 C on infrared thermometer at the point where it is inserted into the suction head.

Update 8/25/2019: Added dual tube for increased air pull. Note that it is asymmetrical, where one side is slightly further from the heater block because of the rectangular block on the SE300.
