Description
So we had a broken old 3d printer lying around here. I needed to wind a few hundred solenoids, so I figured I'd build a coil winding machine with the parts =)
All parts are standard stuff from the 3d printer, so it shouldn't be an issue to get them.
Apart from the STL files, you'll need:
1 ACME lead screw, 1/4" x 150mm
1 nut with flange for the lead screw (dimensions in the solidworks drawings)
2 thin long scews (#4 x 1.1/2") for the flange
2 rectified rods Ø8 x 165mm
2 linear bearings 8mm
2 steppers NEMA17
12 #8 x 1/2" screws with nuts
2x 3/8 x 7/8 x 9/32 Ball Bearings (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01CUNOUG4/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1)
1x chuck converter for 1/4" hex shank (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01HD1AXGE/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1)
1x Printrboard (I used Rev D)
End switch, cables, etc. to connect board to steppers and power supply
Lots of nylon zipties (2mm wide)
The bearing mount and hex shaft were SLA printed because they were somewhat more precise parts. The bearing mount can definitely be FDM'd but the hex shaft coupler I'm sure will break if printed with FDM. Maybe you'll need to tweak the design to fit your needs =)
