Description
This is a simple pin hinge. Yes, I noticed it is square, and yes... it will still fit a 3mm hole.
This hinge is primarily for foam models, although it will work in balsa too.
The "pin" part of the hinges I usually make use very small screws made to repair eyeglasses. They are 1.2mm in diameter and various lengths. They are available through the usual Chinese sites like Alibaba, AliExpress, Banggood, etc.
But they are not really necessary. I made a bunch just using malleable safety wire with a tiny 90° bend in one end, pushed into a snug fit hole on one side, and fixed with a drop of CA.
The hole is a nominal 1mm, but with almost all printers, the hole tends to fill a bit. But it gives a perfect start for tiny drills making the pin holes sizes just about anything you want within reason.
The teeth hold glue, so the filament is not really important. I use PETG which doesn't glue well, but the teeth carry in, and mechanically fix, the shaft in the hole in the foam or balsa.
Any questions, ask away.
