Description

This is a custom designed ski set for a 1/10 scale RC truck. The design is a little different than the off the shelf versions as this replaces the steering hub instead of bolting onto the axle. This reduces the risk of the ski rolling over and takes the strain off of the axles and transfers it directly to the A-arms.

To make this build work, you will need:

4 x (5x10x4 mm bearings) (Easy to find on Amazon)
2 x 5mm threaded rods (Hit up your local hardware store i.e. Ace Hardware)
4 x Locking nuts to fit the threaded rods
2 x 3D printed files titled "Ski"
1 x Normal print of "Ski_Hub"
1 x Mirrored print of "Ski_Hub"
1 x Normal print of "Ski_Riser"
1 x Mirrored print of "Ski_Riser"

You will also need your favorite choice of glue for plastic. I used two part epoxy for a nice strong bond.

To build this set up, first print all of the necessary components and gather the other supplies. Then, drill a small pilot hole through each part labeled Ski_Hub. This hole will serve as the locating hole for the screw that holds the steering hub to the truck. Then, glue one normal Ski_Hub to a normal Ski_Riser as shown in the pictures. Then, press in a bearing to each riser on the ski bottom. Also, press a bearing into either side of the Ski_Riser. Then cut your threaded rod to the correct length and add the lock nuts to either side of the ski. Tighten the nuts just enough so they will not fall off but keep them loose enough that the ski will still rotate with little resistance. Repeat the same process for the other side.

To install on a truck, remove the front wheels and axles. Then remove the steering hub (Should look almost identical to the part labeled Ski_Hub). Now, insert the new ski assembly to replace the steering hub and reattach the screws.

Finally, add some tracks or paddle tires to the rear of the truck and hit the snow!

If you find any problems with the skis, please let me know! I am always looking to learn and to improve my designs. Thank you for trying them and have fun!
