Description
I didn't want to look at my Morakniv Erik Frost 162 hookknife with disdain and fear anymore.
So I designed a sleek sheath for it! Now I don't have to worry about it cutting up everything and/or getting dulled in the process.
I also wanted to challenge myself and model up something, that others might benefit from as well. Sure, it would've been a whole lot easier and cooler to make a sheath from leather with a retaining strap and everything but I wanted to design something with a magnet in it.
The biggest problem was getting the shape as close as possible to the blade. I drew the blades silhouette on finely squared paper and used those 2.5mm squares to help with the measurements. Luckily the hook-shape seems to be bent against a pipe-shaped object and it was relatively easy to find the center. From there I just added blade width and tolerances and put up the walls practically.
Hopefully a fellow maker finds this useful.
The magnet I used was 8mm in diameter and 3mm thick. The wall between the magnet and the thickest part of the blade is 0.8mm, so they stick quite nicely together.
