Description
This started as a remix of 3dMakernoob's bottom piece of his Dehydrator Dual Spool Holder to not require bridging (FilaGuideBot.stl).
After printing, I found that it sat fairly loose in my Dehydrator, so I redesigned it to screw directly onto the dehydrator itself in place of the original white plastic cover over the fan and heating element (see pictures).
I left the metal cover in place, so I think this is safe, but this is an electric heating device and I am no expert, so use at your own risk.
I had trouble drilling the passthrough hole for the tube fitting in the wall of trays the without breaking it, so I decided to simply print my own walls in 6 pieces. They press fit onto the dehydrator base and then I secured them to each other with cable ties.
After that it still wasn't working. I noticed that the filament was always taut and that the spool made a loud screeching sound, so I redesigned using 6 bearings and now it's smooth sailing.
Snapped the central column off my SpoolHolderB2 so I printed a new one with 100% infill. Bearing wouldn't fit, so I made the central column a little bit thinner. While I was at it, I changed from a 3-leg design to a 5-leg design.
I've been having some problems with the filament occasionally falling under the spool and under the holder and getting wrapped around the column. To remedy this, I made the hole in the wall smaller so that the filament always has to travel up a little before exiting.
I didn't like that hot air was blowing out of the wall holes not used to pass filament, so I taped them over (as seen in the picture for my Minimal Master Spool). It's not worth re-printing the walls for that, but I've added a wall section with no hole to solve this more elegantly for those making new walls.
#Tip
Running the dryer all the time makes my makerspace the warmest room in the house. The dryer actually uses twice as much power as my Prusa Mini. So my primary electricity cost has been running my central A/C to make the rest of my house freezing-cold so that room will be livable. I recently picked up a small appliance timer and use it to run my dehydrator on a 50% duty cycle, which has greatly mitigated the situation.
