Description

This is a telegraph office taken from standard designs and plans for the Nickel Plate Road. Dozens of these little shanties were placed across the NKP system, and similar designs showed up on other lines all across America.

The building is very simple; a telegrapher's desk was in one corner of a room, and a waiting area in another. The little building was heated with an oil-burning stove. The oil storage was in a little offshoot closet. For this model, that closet has been repurposed to carry LED lights. One hole on the underside is 8mm in diameter, and the hole leading to the office is 3.5mm in diameter, perfect for SMD LED's.

The interior is fully outfitted, with doors, a counter, a bench, a stove, and a telegrapher's desk all placed, and the exterior is complete with wood siding.

This model is designed to be printed without supports, but a raft might be useful.

To build this, you will need to print:

  • 1 Main Body (print foundation down, roof up)
  • 1 Large Roof (print roofline and exhaust up)
  • 1 Small Roof (print roof/shingles down, 10° offset)
  • 4 Roof Extensions (print angled surface at top)

Paint and assemble, the small roof has guiding rails to help with the final placement. The large roof sits evenly across the top of the main body, and the four roof extensions are glued to the ends of the large roof, to make the overhang.

Total finished dimensions in HO scale are 93mm x 50mm x 48mm
