Description

This is a model of the Eames molded plywood lounge chair. I saw this chair in a few photographs, and I really liked it, so I just had to model and print one.

The model is not 100% accurate, since I had to get all the information only from the photographs I could find, but it gets the job done.

I recommend printing all the parts separately and then assembling them, as the assembled model would need a lot of support. Each piece is oriented on the build plate so that very little support is required (see last photo).

I included small fittings on all the pieces so they can be easily attached to the spine. I recommend simply gluing these fittings together, but on the model I printed, the pieces did stay together just from friction before I glued them up.

Print Settings:

  • The model is fairly large when first imported, but you can scale it to whatever size you like. The one I printed is scaled at 30%

  • Any resolution should work

  • It can be printed without any supports if your printer can handle overhangs decently well, but I would recommend supports to ensure the best quality

  • I also recommend a brim to hold the pieces to the build plate a bit more securely, as there isn't a lot of surface area on the plate on each piece.

  • Infill isn't a huge deal unless you want to print it at a large size, as the pieces are skinny enough to print solid
