Description

This is remix using the Saturn V rocket design from RealAbsurdity's modular snap-fit series, as well as the animated rocket flame code from Danal's Falcon Heavy project. Using the Saturn V as a basis I designed a base display stand, exhaust plumes, and an LED tower in Blender3D to create a new animated mantelpiece style lamp.

I designed the whole model to print at 100% scale on my Prusa i3 MK3S, and so anyone with a build volume of 250 x 210 x 210mm should be able to print full size, but the design is built with overly large holes in the stand that gives you enough flexibility to scale the model up and down as desired- just know that scaling down the height you lose length on the LED strips for the animated flames. My personal model was printed at 80% scale.

Electronics supplies you will need:

  • WS2812B LED Strip (preferably 60 LEDs per meter density)
  • A 5V Power Supply for both the LED strips and the Arduino
  • A Small Arduino to control the animation (could be a Nano or something like an Adafruit Feather, so long as you have at least 6 output pins)

Obviously wire and a soldering station would also be required.

As a bonus recommendation, a marble effect PLA filament for the base stand creates a really lovely final appearance.
