"앙부일구"라는 이름의 뜻은 "가마솥 모양의 해시계"라는 뜻으로, 그림자가 비치는 면이 오목한 가마솥 모양이라서 붙여진 이름이다. 이것을 이용해 하루 동안의 시각과 절기를 알 수 있다.

The name "angbuilgu" means "a cauldron-shaped sundial looking at the sun," given because the shaded side is shaped like a concave cauldron. This let knows the time and the time.

오목한 반구형이기 때문에 그림자를 보다 정확하게 나타낼 수 있다. 절기선이 있어 시각뿐만 아니라 절기(날짜)도 알 수 있음. 특히 절기선의 간격이 일정하지 않은데, 이것은 지구가 태양 주위를 타원으로 돌기 때문에 운동 속도가 일정하지 않음을 나타낸 것이다.

Because it is a concave hemispherical shape, it can more accurately represent shadows. There is a solar term line so you can know not only the time but also the date. In particular, the spacing of the solar term line is not constant. It's indicating that the speed of motion is not constant because the Earth orbits the sun to an ellipse.
