Description
Just got your new MMU2/S, but unable to enjoy it because of the clutter? This is an adapter that allows the Universal Auto-Rewind Spool Holder to be used with the Prusa MMU2 Wall Mount Spool Holder.
After purchasing my MMU2S, I did not have room for 5 spools, Prusas filament buffer, and the printer all on my surface. I built a wall mounted setup with the Wall Mount Spool Holder linked above, and removed the Prusa filament buffer, just going straight from the spools and through one PTFE tube to the back of the MMU2S (6th picture). This worked well and looked amazing, but I had issues with filament tangling when the MMU backed up the filament for a change (7th picture). I needed an auto-rewinder, but couldn't find anything compatible with the rack I had already printed. I had already used a lot of filament to print the rack, and already had the holes in my wall, so I really did not want to use something else entirely. This led to me creating this adapter.
To use this, you will need...
Print/build the Prusa MMU2 Wall Mount Spool Holder as described on it's page. (w/o spool rods) IMPORTANT: Assemble the wall mount with a 100-110mm space between the racks. There is a printable drilling guide included with the Wall Mounts thing files.
Print the included Rewinder_Assembly (slicing can take >5mins due to curvature of the spring).
Assemble the Rewinder as described on the Universal Auto-Rewind Spool Holder page, minus the stand & tube holder.
Slide the clips (included in Rewinder_Assembly) into position as shown in 3rd & 4th pictures.
Print RackAdapters (6x for full size rack e.g. 5 spools)
Push the RackAdapters into place on the racks.
Set the Rewinder into the slots in the RackAdapter so that the anti-rotation notch on the rewinder spring is facing up (3rd picture)
Set spring tension on the clutch
You're done!
