Description
A model of the cut end detail from Darth Maul's lightsaber from TPM.
Needs #2 flat Phillips head screws.
The second file is for a drilling guide to help hollow out the end of your resin saber hilt. You'll need a 1-1/8 inch Forstner bit. Be very careful when drilling the resin. It's dense and strong - go slowly and be sure to securely hold the template in place on the resin so that it doesn't jump.
Tamiya XF-16 Flat Aluminum is a good color to paint the bare resin that drilling exposes.
I used a 3/8-16 x 7/16 "brad hole T-nut" from Lowes (Item # 137350 Model # 880541) to secure the threaded rod.
5/26/19 Added Clone Wars cut end details (3 variations). Best guess at what it looks like from the few good shots of it that I could find on the show. It appears to be something of a very simplified version of the Master Replicas cut end detail.
The animated show prop's model looks very faithful to the movie prop, overall, with the exception of a black screw in the covertec wheel and a smaller emitter. As a half-hilt, the smaller emitter makes the prop look better balanced overall IMO (maybe the original reason for the change?).
Also, to help center it on the kit's machined emitter, added a simple adapter piece for the new smaller/thicker washer - a 5/8 flat washer (Lowe's part 63310 https://www.lowes.com/pd/Hillman-0-625-in-x-Zinc-Plated-Standard-SAE-Flat-Washer/3058565 )
