Description
Inspired by brunofporto's indirect laser monitor design here: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3558691
I wanted to see if I could come up with something quick & easier to assemble, especially for testing and making changes. I also wanted to use bearings I had on hand
I pretty much achieved the quick and simple assembly, bearings snap into place, the board and board casing sit on a locating peg with a single screw to assemble.
Made it in openscad, have uploaded the scad in case anyone wants to change it.. my openscad skills arent great so its a bit messy, sorry.
I added a small mount so I could mount it on top of my flying extruder - still very much testing, but so far it seems to be working very well. Have tried different distances between bearing surface and sensor.. so far a total distance of 8-9mm seems to have the most consistent results. I also gave the bearing being read by the sensor a very slight sandpaper with 1000grit.. just enough to take a bit of the shine off. Don't know if it makes much difference, but figure it cant hurt.
I also run a 2mm drill bit through the filament path to ensure the filament slides through nicely but with no sideways movement
Requires:
5x10x4mm bearing like MR105
2.0mm drill bit to clean out the filament path
