Description
This is a model of the Lower 48 states in the US. Each state features terrain (greatly exaggerated, by 50x!) and fits together as a puzzle. Some states are grouped together because of their size (New England), other have pieces attached to other states (Michigan's Upper Peninsula is grouped with Wisconsin, but separated by a visible border). Equal area (Albers) projection, so relative sizes are correct. 1 to 5,000,000 scale, the model occupies just about one meter wide when complete.
If pieces aren't fitting together, make sure your printer doesn't have an "elephant's foot" problem. We used a Lulzbot Taz 6 to prepare the model. The largest models (California, Texas) should still fit on this print bed. Use the "Initial Layer Horizontal Expansion" setting in Cura (set to -1) to help alleviate the elephant's foot problem.
