Description

I wanted a solution for putting cooling fans on my Index HMD without needed to make permanent changes to it. This is what I came up with.

This is a simple (one may even say crude) combination of the frunk cover from Anteye and the 40mm fan holders (with all the actual fan covering removed) by sn3850. The idea is to be able to place 2 fans at the sides of the HMD without needing to fasten anything outside of the trunk. I made the gap between the "legs" of the cover about 2mm wider on the side with the UBS port in order to fit a cable there. All the electronics should be able to fit behind the cover.

In the upload I include one version with a 6mm hole and one with two holes, one 6 mm and one 10 mm with flat top and bottom, as well as one version without holes, so you can make your own. I used the two-hole version for mounting a switch for turning off the fans and a potentiometer for regulating fan speed.

I hide all the electronics (some resistors) in the trunk and attach the fans with electrical tape. The final product works well. The bottom edges of the fans are visible from the HMD cameras, however.
