Description

WARNING: This is a work in progress.

This is a cooling duct for a 775 motor with heat sink. It is the last part of a ridiculous project I undertook to hop-up my grandson’s Power Wheels Quad (a gut to the studs endeavor). The new quad had over-heating issues and luckily I had the foresight to install a temp monitor. I bought heat sinks and I was advised to add a fan and duct to realize the full potential of the heat sink.

I ended up not using this duct, but l'm leaving the Thing for others. In my case the 775 motors have their own internal fans and this duct would compete with the motor's fans. It turns out the heat sinks with just passive cooling was enough to fix the quad over-heating issues.

components:

  • 775 motor
  • heat sink (https://store.nextgenrobots.com/product/775cooler360)
  • 2" stainless hose clamp to hold duct and heat sink in place
  • 4 x 3mm bolts
  • 60mm PC cooling fan

print details;

  • PETG with 5 perimeters, 20% fill
  • clean up the 3mm threaded holes with a tap before use
  • holes for the wires are drilled manually
  • The print is intentionally a really tight fit. There are chamfers to help installation, but admittedly it is still a struggle to get it on. There are undoubtedly variations in the dimensions of 775 motor cans so the fitment may not work for you.
