Dolby Surround Sound Speaker Placement Laser Angle Guide

This is a tool to use to place your Dolby 5.1, 7.1 (including Dolby Atmos) surround sound speakers in the correct position in the room with a laser level .

Dolby defines the exact angles that speakers should be at on it website. To use this tool place the template with laser level in the sweet spot of the room and you can easily shine a line up the wall at the optimal angle for each speaker (as well as the max and min angles Dolby define as still in spec).

I work at a large Television broadcast facility and I have had to layout the exact placement for speakers for surround sound when building a dubbing suites or sound galleries. Each time I would do this I would put tape on the floor at the exact sweet spot of the room (where the listener sits) and would mark out the angles on the floor and shine a laser to the wall where the speaker should be mounted. after doing the same thing several times someone said you should just make a template for that, and here we are. It is overkill I know, but if your going to do a job do it right. digital signal processing in modern broadcast monitors can fix your mistakes and make a bad room sound better but if you can get the room as good as possible in the first place the digital signal processing has less to do.

It is designed to work with a "Stanley Cross 90" laser level but I am sure it will work with many other brands. It has a small rod that sticks up in the center that fits into the 1/4" camera tripod thread on the bottom. I have included a version without this if you have a different laser.

I printed it Multi material (included as zip file) but if you just print the base section with a single extruder it will have the markings embossed and will work fine.
