Description

This is my favorite shape of my wooden boomerangs, so I had to replicate it using 3d printing. It is inspired by the fabulous Geronimo Hook by the late Volker Behrens.

This boomerang shape tends to fly too low and crash about halfway into the turn. There are two ways to prevent this (either one works, or you do both):

You can add what is called "dihedral" to the wings. This means you gently bend the wings upward so that the wingtips are about 1-2 mm up off the surface if you lay the boomerang flat on a table. The more dihedral you add, the higher the boomerang will fly. You can also apply some heat to make these changes permanent.

There's a second version called "hook-undercut". That one has an extra bevel near the elbow which creates more lift and saves you the manual tuning. It is quite impossible to print cleanly, though. I printed lots of support which I had to cut and file back. Doesn't look so nice, but it flies great with the undercut.

Throw nice and low and with a little layover (lay the boomerang to the right in a 1 o'clock position).

If you are new to boomerangs, I suggest trying my other designs such as this classic shape and this triblader first.

NEW: Video of some test throws available here: https://youtu.be/84ndHafSrv4

You'll notice that the lower I throw, the higher the boomerang will climb and vice versa. Thus, I recommend throwing only very slightly above the horizon, almost parallel to the ground.
