Description
NOTE: The pieces are NOT included here. Several great sets can be found here on Thingiverse. The pieces in the photo are from this one: http://collabedit.com/2texs
This is a chess board with fully interlocking pieces that I whipped up in Fusion 360 just for the fun of it.
The squares fit together like puzzle pieces and they are slightly taller toward the edges of the board so that the interlocking tabs are hidden under the top of each successive piece.
If you print the squares upside down, you won't need any supports. I recommend printing on a mirror for that nice glossy finish but obviously that isn't necessary.
The stl files uploaded here are for 3x3cm squares (24x24cm board) but I've also included the Fusion360 file and it's fully parametric so you could easily open it up and resize the squares to whatever you like. (Be warned. Fusion 360 can take a while to recompute the board when you do that.)
