Description
This is a simple upgrade for the Vasa Kayak Ergometer's paddle shaft.

The standard shaft end cap merely closes the thin aluminum, shaft tubing. Tightening of the shaft eyebolt can crush the shaft tubing. Also, prolonged use can gradually collapse the tubing and even tear the bolt holes larger. Bunnies have had one bolt hole become a 1 cm long slot. While the rubber grommets in the current Vasa design help, this reinforcer goes the extra distance.
Reinforcer replaces the end caps with a strong, solid plug that prevents collapse of the paddle shaft ends and protects against usage wear.
A nice side benefit is you can more solidly tighten the eyebolt without damaging the shaft.
Print in PETG for good strength.
Remove existing end cap, eye bolt, rubber grommets and nut.
Push/tap reinforcer into position. Rotational alignment can be seen using the alignment notches. Final rotation can be done with a screwdriver passed through the shaft's bolt holes.
Eye bolt threads in through the reinforcer to ensure a solid mount.
I recommend adding a small washer between eye bolt's "eye" and its rubber grommet.
Axial hole in reinforcer is to allow easier future removal.
Tip: While you have your kayak paddle shaft apart, consider drilling an extra 6 mm hole for the center ferule to allow 60 degree feathering. This can lessen wrist strain during high angle paddling.
