Description
This is a filament change on the fly switch. It will require a second extruder, without the hot end, and some bowden tube and connectors. One side the the switch, preferably the female, gets wired in parallel to the original extruder. The other side goes to the second extruder. When the filament runs out the switch triggers like a mouse trap and brings the second extruder online while simultaneously aligning the new filament.
Update: When I built the male end I fused the two together with a soldering iron. It could be modified to use a single wire/contact then toggle a relay. I did tune the plug ever so slightly. I used a nail file to bevel the ends of the pins to make them more pointed and i got a very small drill bit, only slightly larger than the pins and turned it by hand to give the female side of the plug a smoother entry. The spring is actually from an ink pen, it could stand to be slightly stronger.
Update: I've updated the STLs. The fillet on the second hole of main body was incorrect. I moved it to the bottom of the slider.
