Bird Feeder

Designed for feeding grain, insects and crushed peanuts. In the UK I buy bird food from Croston Mill. They do not pay me for this recommendation!

The print height of the bird feeder is 165mm, diameter 115mm. capacity 1.35 litre (2.4 pints) .

It is better to print this with a tray to stop the birds dropping so much food on the ground. If you have a large printer then I recommend printing the bird feeder file complete with 210mm tray. Otherwise I include 150mm and 210mm trays which may be stuck onto the bird feeder with a suitable glue. Acetone for ABS or a Superglue for other plastics.

The feeder may be placed on a table or suspended using the hanger.
11mm (half inch) feed openings give good accessibility for garden birds whilst being shaped to minimise feed falling out of the container. They make it easy to see when the container is below 2/3rds full.
The jar shaped design is easier to refill than the soda bottle feeders on Thingiverse.
A cone shaped base ensures that feed is accessible to birds until it is completely empty.

Printing

It is designed not to require supports. These are best avoided else you will be spending ages cleaning it out of the openings.
0.2 or 0.25mm layer height, 25% fill and 3 top, bottom and side layers should be good.
I printed this in ABS for outside durability.
It should be fine with PLA especially where strength and layer adhesion are more important than weather resistance. Avoid dark colours in hot climates. I used blue for the photograph but white would be a more Sun resistant colour.
I have not tried printing it in PETG but if you do then you might get problems with spanning the feed openings.

Note: on February 3, 2020 I increased the thickness of the hanger to make it less likely to detach when refilling the feeder.
