Gidget the Gigapod is an even larger version of Max the Megapod thing 3075149) and our very popular Vorpal the Hexapod thing 2513566.

This hexapod robot is 38 inches in diameter when standing, weighs approximately 25 pounds (includes battery), and can walk, dance, and perform other tricks as you can see in the video.

Despite its enormous size, the parts are split up in a way that you can print this on a printer with an 11 inch (275mm) bed. If you don't have a bed that large, you might consider our Megapod project which requires an 8 inch (200mm) bed, or our original Vorpal Hexapod which only requires a 6 inch (150mm) bed.

Build instructions, electronics parts list, etc., will soon be posted to VorpalRobotics.com (however the build is almost identical to Max the Megapod so if you're experienced at building that project you can probably muddle through without specific instructions).

The robot and gamepad arduino code is posted to github, there at links at VorpalRobotics.com for downloads.

The first picture shows a size comparison in relation to a kindergarden student. The second picture (the stack of robots) shows the gigapod on the bottom, megapod in the middle, and our original Vorpal Hexapod on top.

It is by far suggested that you build the small version first! It's much less expensive in terms of parts, print time, and build time than the larger versions. See the Vorpal Store

It can be controlled wirelessly using a Vorpal Gamepad (see Vorpal the Hexapod project for the gamepad, I didn't think it was worthwhile to repeat those parts here as there is no difference).

IMPORTANT NOTES

PLEASE NOTE: This project is currently still in test phase. It's far enough along, and seems to work well enough at this point for me to publish the files. But I may still make some modifications based on further testing.

LONG PRINT WARNING: This is a huge robot, as you can see by the picture with a kindergarden student sitting next to it. The print time is north of 200 hours and it requires about 6 kg of plastic.

OTHER WARNINGS: The servo motors used in this project are rated 60 kg-cm. That's easily strong enough to break your fingers. Be extremely cautious where you put your hands when the robot is powered up. Be careful when small children are around this robot, they tend to grab at things unexpectedly.
