#Introduction
I love the Tarheel Ants Mini Hearth nests but unfortunately, I had nothing to cover the front of the nest to block the light and my phiedole bicarinata colony get real stressed out by the light. I also had issues with keeping their nest hydrated as well as the occasional spill causing water to leak onto my bookshelf.
So, I designed these.
#Before You Print
These are for 2 different nests. One is for the stand-alone Tarheel Ants Mini Hearth Bifurcated Founding Formicaria and one is for the Tarheel Ants Mini Hearth Type 3 Formicaria. Make sure you verify what nest you have and print the correct one. The bifurcated base and shield will not work with the Mini Hearth Type 3 and cannot be connected flush to other bases.
#Design Notes
The Mini Hearth Type 3 Base is designed with magnets in mind as those nests come with magnets to attach together. As such, these bases can be connected together using circular 3mm x 6mm neodymium magnets.
There are 3 different versions for each base (both bifurcated and Type 3).
V1 - Simple base with no heating components. No heat cable hooks or heat cable pipe.
V2 - Optional insertable heat cable hooks can be added to the back.
V3 - Optional heat cable hooks can be added and there is an additional heat cable pipe on the front if you prefer to heat the front of the nest.
All three versions of the bases also have an alternate option with Tarheel Ants spelled out across them.
#My Print Notes
Printer: TronXY
Filament: B&H Clear Red (PLA)
Layer Height: .3
Infil: 10% for base, none for shield
I printed the face shield standing up as it is in the stl file. If you can't get your printer to print the top layer on the face shield at hollow, then just do 5%.
