@Emmas Spareroom Machineshop is hosting the #TMC2020 yet again this year.
We have entered each year, the first year was our Gear Cutting on the Shaper video, which has been one of the most popular videos on my channel.
This year, I attack the Blue LED Laser with some left-over Reprap printer parts. At first I thought an existing option might work for me, but the more I progressed, each item was different, so drove me to re-engineer from first principles.
I use my old favourite OpenSCAD, as it sits right in my wheel-house of programmatic 3D modelling.
By breaking out all critical dimensions as parameters, it is possible to recompile the design for whatever parts you have lying around.
LM8UU bearings? 8mm rods, different pulleys? belts? bearings? tweak and print!
I also constrained the sizes of all parts so they can be printed on my SL1 Prusa 3D printer, and tweaked a little for strength and support-free printing.

I soon determined it was not suitable for my needs due to different rods, bearings, pulleys, laser etc. so started from scratch in OpenSCAD
