Description
Full cable solution for the Ender 3
In total we will need 49 of the Chain Links and 49 Chain Link Clips.
Supports are required only for the Extruder Mount. Print all other parts with no support
Instructions are as follows:
Parts Required are:
Chain Link x 13
Chain Link Clip x 13
Bed Chain - Bed Connector
Bed Chain - Bed Connector Cover
Bed Chain - Rail Mount
You will need to remove the heatbed and replace the existing black plastic cover with the new bed connector. Once done, put the heatbed back on and clip on the cover plate
The Rail mount will slide into the rear 4040 extrusion
Now simply put together the 13 links to the chain and clip on the link clips
Parts Required are:
Chain Links x13
Chain Link Clips x 13
Hot End Connector
Extruder Chain - Hot End Connector
Extruder Mount
The Hot End Connector will simply clip into place over the wheel axles and should be secure. A cable tie can be used to ensure it's secured in place (as per the photo)
Extruder mount is secured in place using the two existing screws holding the motor in place.
Using the 13 chain links, put the cable in place and secure it with the chain link clips
This is designed to fit in place once the cable chain is installed. It will smoothly guide the filament from top mounted spool into the extruder. I would also recommend getting a filament guide for top if you have not already. A great example is here - https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3015832
Secure the guide using the screw that secures the motor. It should line up perfectly!
Parts Required are:
Chain Links x 23
Chain Link Clips x23
Z-Chain - Rail Mount
Extruder Mount (should already be printed from above installing of extruder chain)
Extruder Mount Cover
This one is slightly more tricky - First thing is to clip on the 4040 Rail Mount. This should simply slide/clip into place
Clip on the Extruder Mount Cover and now we are ready to put out chain into place
To make it work like a snake we start from the bottom and place 7 chain links to curve upwards, then use 6 more chain links reversed to curve the opposite way. Now reverse the chain again with 6 more links and finally reverse it again with the last 4 links
Feed the Z-Stepper cables through the bottom link and have them come out between the 11th and 12th link in the chain (from the bottom). We do this because the stepper motor cable is not as long as the hot end cable and this allows it to move comfortably and ensure there is smooth movement for the full Z axis top to bottom
Note - It helps to place the cable in place as you are putting the chain links together.
Once the cable is in place, we secure it using the chain link clips
I hope you enjoy this mod!
