Description
I had a jar, motor, and power source laying around, so project time! I wanted a design that would fit the parts I had on hand, and I wanted to design something that avoided all the moving parts that can sometimes be hard to print such as bearings and rollers. This design allows the glass to slide on the small plastic edges and works quite well, as well as being very simple to print.
The base prints in 3 pieces, and they can be glued together to form one solid base. I used a 3D printing pen to fused the pieces, if that is more your style. I used superglue to glue the tumbling fins to the inside of the jar as well as the gear to the outside and they appear to be holding up well after about 30 hours of tumbling.
Also note that there is "tumbler bottom rib" which is as pictured, but this allowed the weight of the motor to tip the base when the jar is removed, so I also created "tumbler bottom rib with feet" which should keep the motor from tipping the base over, but will make the base a little larger
The prints take some time to smooth out, the pictures show before and after of the first pieces I used with the sandblasting media. It has smoothed out the imperfections and gives the prints a nice matte finish.

I tried a few types of sand but found that they were not super effective, I ended up having the best luck with sandblasting media as it was more abrasive.
