Description

THIS MOD REQUIRES A 3D PRINTED PART TO BE PLACED NEAR A HOTEND. USE A MATERIAL THAT SHOULD WITHSTAND HIGHER TEMPERATURES AND IS NOT FLAMMABLE. USE SILICON SOCK FOR THE HEATER BLOCK. NEVER LEAVE YOUR PRINTER UNATTENDED. AUTHOR'S RESULTS MAY BE DIFFERENT FROM YOURS.

I like stock hotend cooling shroud of my Ender 3 Pro, because it is simple and looks rugged. There is an issue with the design, which may cause problems when printing ABS. Even if you turn off the part cooling fan, some air is still pushed towards your part by the hotend fan. For ABS, it may cause warping and layer adhesion problems. For other materials, you have little control over part cooling and bed heating can take longer.

I measured the bottom of the shroud and designed bottom wall that goes closer to the heater block, and stops quite some of the hotend cooling air from leaking out downwards.

The printed part is designed to be pressed into its place. The slot should sit firmly on the fan shroud.

I have printed mine in PETG and it is still holding fine after many PETG/ABS prints. Higher temperature printing may cause it to droop too much, but you can't do that on stock Ender 3 anyway.

Remember, that after installing this mod your part cooling efficiency will drop somewhat, so adjust cooling fan percentage or add a better part cooling nozzle. I use this one:

The design may fit other Creality printers (CR-10, Ender 5) that use same metal fan shroud. If you happen to have one, please drop me a line if it fits, or should have some of the dimensions adjusted.

Thanks, hope it will help you when printing ABS :)
