Fallout 4 Mini-Nuke Container and Pencil Holder

This is a model of the mini-nuke from the Fallout video games. Two upper caps are available to make the model into a container or a pen/pencil holder. The models are provided in STL format. Using CURA, the native scale of the STL files print a model that should be about 7 inches (~17cm) long.

I used reference images from the game to design the models, and made a few changes. I flared out the fins to make them look cooler. The lower end was extended and connected to the inner ring of the fin cassette to allow the lower body and the entire fin cassette to be printed in one model. I omitted the four boxy things on the side of the body due to overhang issues... and I forgot to figure out something similar that would work.

The upper and lower halves of the model both have identical female thread, and are coupled together by a coupler with male thread. This was done to minimize the print time needed to get the threaded parts to fit. Only the threaded coupler, which can be printed in 30 min, has to be scaled to get the two parts to fit.

I scaled the threaded ring so it fit right for me, using my machine and filament choice. If you experience issues with the fit of the threaded parts, I recommend scaling the ring part up (if too loose) or down (if too tight) by 0.5% at a time until you get a good fit.

Glue can be used to bond the threaded ring to either upper or lower part. However, glue is not strictly necessary- just screw the ring into either part snugly, and it will get stuck and not come out unless you want it out.

I hope you enjoy making this model! It was fun to design. I think it's really cool how 3D printing can make designs accessible to everyone. If you end up printing this, I would appreciate it if the make was posted - I get a kick out of it! It's only happened twice...

Note: this model is not meant to be an actual explosive device- consider it a useful prop from a video game. Not dangerous. Just for fun.
