Description
A quick and easy straight mute. Great for students.
I measured my straight mute, modeled it in openscad and 3d printed a new one. just glue some cork to the side and you are good to go.
I tried it in vase mode but it sounded horrible. Don't go down that road.
I've included the openscad file. It's just a couple lines to create a hollow cone.
It's almost indistinguishable in tone from the original. Resistance is the same. It's slightly darker than the "real" mute and it falls apart in the extreme low register, but who's writing G below low C muted trumpet parts?
Bonus: The bottom fell out of my vase mode attempt and I've used it every day for over a year as a funnel to put ice into my water bottle.
