Description
This Thing holds an "SM58 replacement" or "Beta 58 replacement" cartridge (of the <$10 each from China, counterfeit variety found on ebay) inside the Shure Model 55 "Fatboy" microphone shell.
Frequently the microphone elements/cartridges in 80 year old microphones are no longer in working order; "permanent magnets" have a shorter lifespan than the awesome body of the mic. This Thing helps you get some sound out of your Shure Model 55 (or 556) "Fatboy" inexpensively while you look for a better modern solution.
There are two designs, one for wiring the cartridge directly to the microphone's connector (or to a transformer that is already in the mic), and one with a cup in which to mount a 1:1 microphone-transformer. These transformers are sometimes found in a package deal with the above mentioned cartridges, but can be purchased separately.
