Modified TOS Type I Phaser with Moving Parts

Here is a working type 1 phaser from Star Trek The Original Series based on the awesome model by Shipbrook.

The original prop had a pop-up target display I wanted to recreate for a fully 3D printed version. I came up with a sliding wedge assembly that pushes the moving parts. It works well. The original prop also had a little clear emitter tip that popped out when the target display opened so I incorporated that too. The emitter tip is too long to work well inserted in type II so I recommend the short version of the tip if you want no issues. The body was made wider and thicker at the rear and it still fits the type 2 phaser by Shipbrook.

All parts should open in the proper print orientation. No supports needed except for the front cap, screen base, screen-whole, and display-whole. The shells can be done without support if you have good bridging otherwise use support. The lever part is a print in place hinge that should be pretty loose, but it is fragile so take care. The pins are tiny and should be printed laying down with a brim.

There is /an stl of both top and bottom shells together so they can support each other at higher layers. It worked for me so let me know if you run into issues.

If you try to test the opening mechanism before gluing anything it will be rough. Once the internal frame is glued to the bottom shell the opening motion gets smoother.

• Update 9/13/21 added a solid non-working version for those who want the modified phaser shape without all the mechanisms. Located in the zip file.

-4/18/21 Added the missing trim.
-4/24/21 Added a new hinge that I hope works for those who had trouble with the original. Its called lever 2. Its thickened up a little around the hinge. Let me know if it needs more.
Also just added lever 3 that has wider gaps around the hinge to hopefully avoid melting together.
