Sorry it took me a while, but after this much work i had to keep a break.

Here it finally is, the second part of the Schwerer Gustav project.

The second part includes the:

D311 dual diesel-electric locomotives.
Ammunition cars
Construction cranes
Display rail/base

None of this stuff is needed to build the railway-gun itself, it's all extra stuff that goes with it.

Im not sure what the next part of my WWII military train project will be, but my top contenders are the BP-42 armored train, and Hermann Goerings personal train "Asien".

Schwerer Gustav extra bits

D311 Dual diesel-electric locomotive

The D311 is a type of diesel-electric locomotive that was built specifically for the Schwerer Gustav and Dora guns, so only 4 ever existed...or 8, depending on how you look at it.
One D311 is indeed 2 of the same engines coupled together.

I went the extra distance with these and modeled not only the exterior of the engine, but the interior as-well.

Everything has been designed to more or less just snap together.
The walls and roof can be removed to have a better view of the interior, and the doors can be attached closed or open.

The image below should give you a good idea of how it goes together.
The fuse-box goes on the cab's back wall above the marked spot.
The brake wheel goes between the two cab doors on the back wall.

Ammunition cars

On these ones i had to do a bit of creative thinking as the underside of the ammunition cars in all the images is too dark to make out. Also there's the unfortunate fact that even after hours of searching, i wasn't able to find a single image of a specially built German ammunition car, so there was little to go on.

The maximum axle-load on German railways back then was 21 tons, and given a single AP shell weighs 7 tons and the car itself probably weighs a few tons as-well, i figured more than 2 axles would be needed.

I put little rails inside the ammo-rars to allow for the ammo-cart of the gun to travel from the elevator to the ammo-car.

Construction cranes

I know, not very accurate, but i didn't feel like spending that much time on this.

Assembly should be simple enough. i suggest you glue the legs in place as their attachment otherwise is not great.

As you can see from the image, two of these would be erected, but i printed only one as the cranes are pretty beefy.

The bits for the cranes would be delivered onsite on long 4-axle flatcars, and i believe a couple smaller cranes would be used to help build these ones. They too where delivered onsite by train.

Display-rail/base.

Indeed, even the railroads used by the Schwerer Gustav where quite special.

Essentially 3 railways running next to each other, with the ones used by the gun being extra reinforced. Either side of those would run the rails for the cranes.

The main-rails come in 10x10cm plates.

I didn't get around to making the whole display-base. You will need about 150-160cm worth of this track to effectively display everything.
I got to about 60cm worth before my printer jammed and my motivation ran out.
