Improved Rat Rig V-Core 3, XY joiners. (See my 3.1 versions for V-Core 3.1 printers)
Note this mod is only relevant to Rat Rig V-Core 3, Version 3.0 builds. Hole centres for the bearings on the XY gantry have changed with Rat Rigs version 3.1 update and with bearing stacks instead of idlers in 3.1.
The standard joiners use the bolts that act as the axles for the idlers to also clamp the XY joiners to the steel plate underneath attached to the linear rail carriage.
If you clamp the bolts up hard enough to have a secure connection to the steel plate you end up crushing the compressible tubes between the bearings in the idlers....which is sub optimal and will lead to early bearing failure. The bearings are not designed to be loaded in this direction.
This mod uses the cap screws that hold the aluminium extrusion into the printed XY joiners to also clamp the XY assembly to the aluminium plates.
These XY joiners also have the front overhangs removed for a cleaner look. This makes them easier to print standing vertically. I like to print these vertically to get a flatter/truer base and more perfectly aligned axle holes
This also gives them more clearance to the top plates of the front idler tensioners if your are using them with the OneBox OpenFront design, which is nice to have.

These original 10mm long cap head screws need to be replaced by 25mm cap head screws.

If you decide to contribute to my coffee fund to keep me up late at night doing more of this stuff I would appreciate this, but there is absolutely no obligation for you to do this. My PayPal account is [email protected]Attribution:
These are a derivative of the Original Rat Rig V-Core 3 XY joiners.
Updates
V2: 01/April/22. These now have slightly modified contours to prevent them hitting the front idler tensioners on the Gold Series OpenFront design
V3: 22/09/2022. Cleaned up aesthetics of design and made them easier to print than standard Rat Rig XY joiners.
V4: 16/01/23. Increased diameter of cutouts to give more clearance for the belts and rear idler flanges.
