Description

This is a tool I designed way back in 2018 to aid in cleaning the surface of 5.25inch floppy disks.

It's pretty simple to use, just sit the "spindle" in the centre of the holder, lay your floppy disk on top, then place the tool on top which when light pressure is applied will then grip the disk and allow you to rotate the magnetic surface. You can then clean the magnetic surface using your preferred method while rotating the disk.

The "spindle" requires a flat rubber washer to to be place onto it which is used to grip the centre of the disk. I was having these custom cut by a seller on eBay with a 26mm inside diameter, 34mm outside diameter and a thickness of 1mm (this is the size washer the spindle was designed for). Alternatively I know some people were using sections of elastic band stuck to around the spindle, or small pieces of adhesive backed rubber.

I have also included my v2 design, which was also listed back in the day as the "Deluxe" model. his is pretty much the same, but the rotating tool is attached on a hinge, so when closed it helps stop the disk from flexing too much while cleaning.

Please note, the "spindle" is required for both the v1 and v2 versions.

I have included a screenshot of Kilobyte magazine in which this was featured. It's a great free online publication that is well worth a read. (Note, I no longer print these so have removed my email address).

No special print requirements. I generally stick to 0.2mm and 25-30% infill.

Do what you like with it as per the licence attached. If selling it, please keep the price reasonable, provide credit to the original author (me) and provide a link back to the original design files.
