Description

This is a mashup of two clever designs.

Hand beater handle, https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4290265

and

Handle for 1/4 inch hex bits,https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4308369

The hand beater handle came out first. I downloaded the design right away. Not because I needed a replacement handle for my egg beater, but it was just so well designed for functionality and for printing. I just needed to find something else to attach to the handle.

Then I saw this handle for hex bits. It was a good match up.

I tried a couple of designs based on these two parts, but I’ve only printed one.

After printing the design, I went to Lowes and bought this inexpensive set of hex drill bits. https://www.lowes.com/pd/Kobalt-21-Piece-Titanium-Coated-HSS-Twist-Drill-Bit-Set/1002680600 It is a good combination.

It works ok. The hex bit holder part is loose. It needs to be shrunk down to more tightly hold the bit.

Using it as a drill puts a lot of side load as you turn the handle. It helps when the bit goes into the wood. This anchors that end from moving.

Overall it is compact and needs no battery or outlet. The design has some areas for improvement. Fun, but for serious work get a cordless drill.

This can be difficult to print correctly. The section above the hex for the drill bit has a shell that is supposed to spin freely. This lets you hold the drill steady while you spin the drill bit with the handle.

I had to use pliers to break it free after printing. You can see in the photo how chewed up the part looks from the pliers bitting into the part to break it loose. The gap is small and wants to fuse together. Good luck.

I do not recommend supports.
