Description
Here is my attempt to build the maybe smallest yet powerful RAID5 NAS on the planet :D
The enclosure can hold 4x 2,5" USB HDDs and fits nicely under a Truenas running intel NUC.
I use 5TB Seagate Expansion+ drives which measure 117x80x21cm.
In order to minimize vibration i applied 1mm thick foam rubber tape inbetween the slots and the drives. Additionally i removed the metal buttom plate from the NUC to allow the integrated fan to suck air not only through the NUC but also through the HDD compartement.
For future, it is planned to add a little frame in the center space of the enclosure that can hold the naked PCB of a 4 port USB hub. Thus only one cable connection will be needed to attach the drives to the NUC.
