Description

I use the ESP32 CAM with AI on the edge to read my water meter and switch a mosfet via the GPIOs in the situation of a broken water pipe in our horse barn. It's not uncommon for a water trough to freeze or for a horse to rip it out of the wall and every time the water flows through our building all night long.

I evaluate the meter reading every 4 minutes via mqtt. During 21:00 to 8:30 a mosfet with a solenoid valve is switched as soon as the meter difference is greater than 0.1 m3 in 4 min. I use a pilot operated solenoid valve which is closed "slowly" with PWM. For safety, I have installed a water hammer damper.

Then I read out a reed contact via the other GPIO, which gives a pulse every 0.1 m3 gas consumption, via homeassistant i can track my gas consumption.

In the future I want to use a MQ9 gas sensor, this has a digital output, which becomes active at an adjustable limit. The hardware is already done, but I still have to find out where the right threshold is. The sensor is very slow and has a warm up time of about 1-2 days to stabilize.

The housing is simply put on the tube and then fixed with 2x M2.5 screw. I printed it with 100% infill and 0.3mm in PLA (200/60). i have painted the inside of the tube with matte black paint to avoid reflections

Photos will follow as soon as the board is ready, waiting for components...

Remixed klein0r's Water Meter adapter. Thank you buddy, i have the same water meter. ;-p
