Description
This is a case for the awesome Commodore 1581 floppy disk drive replica project presented by toms01 on Forum 64.
The case closely resembles the original with some practical changes to make it more 3D-printable and to accommodate 'modern' PC drives. Most of the credit for this design actually belongs to Braincell who granted me permission to publish all files together.
The files included here will currently fit the following disk drives:
Select and print the appropriate eject button. For other drives, a new eject button would probably be required and possibly a modified drive mount.
See photos for hints on how to assemble.
The original posts in which the design was published can be found here and here.
As mentioned above, this case was designed to fit the 1581 PCB created by toms01 and it should also fit the original one made by Commodore. There are multiple reports however, that the ripped-off PCB sold under the name "Alpha Labs" will not fit this case.
The PCB designed by tom01 can still be obtained at the Restore-Store.
Again thanks to the generous contribution by Braincell, there is now an alternative "fascia" design which allows PC floppy drives to be used including their front plates. Please note that you will also have to print the modified drive mount part that goes with this. The top and bottom halves of the case will fit either way.
